Bed Paintings positions the body as a site of social and media ascriptions. From Alessandro Bostelmann’s working method compelled by ME/CFS, painting from bed in short intervals, emerges a pictorial language that condenses isolation, altered temporal perception, and a digitally mediated present into a dense, internally contradictory experience. Bostelmann’s painting probes proximity and distance, the ambivalence of nakedness, and the political dimension of intimacy: Who interprets the body, which diagnoses prevail, where does certainty break down? Humor serves as a precise means of unmasking without trivializing. The exhibition foregrounds the analysis of body images within the nexus of mediality, diagnostic culture, and social legibility, and makes the resulting aesthetic decisions methodologically explicit.
