For the annual commission at Haus der Kunst, the New York–based artist Maria VMier (b. 1985, Passau) spoke with staff members and turned their memories and routines into a three-part installation – a journey into the parts of an art institution that usually stay invisible. At the staff entrance, weathered façade letters reassemble into “Bauch der Kunst,” in the Passage large-scale drawings register the building as a tactile archive, and small cast-aluminium sculptures surface like ghostly forms in the crevices of Mittelhalle. An artist book produced for the occasion documents these openings throughout the building. An invitation to discover Haus der Kunst from a side that usually stays hidden.
