The staging of female role models in photographic self-portraits is the central theme in Cindy Sherman’s work. She became known for her black and white series Untitled Film Stills, in which she embodies stereotypical female characters from fictional film scenes. Later, she created series of large-format colour photographs that explore themes such as fashion, fairy-tale characters, horror scenes and society ladies. The Sammlung Goetz owns extensive groups of works from almost all periods of her practice.
